Omar Bolsters Pitching Staff...

On Thursday & Friday, on the heals of the addition of El Duque, Omar Minaya traded a low minor leaguer (Robert Manuel) to the Cincinatti Reds for lefty Dave Williams, the principal addition the Reds received in exchange for Sean Casey in the off-season. Williams has yet to reach his potential and is a reasonably hard-throwing lefty. We acquired him for basically nothing, as the Reds are also picking up the lion's share of his contract. It's always worth taking a shot at a lefty who can either start or relieve for us (probably the latter) for nothing, especially when the Reds once thought enough of him (and not so long ago) to trade their starting first basemen with the .300 average for him. Additionally, not one to rest on his laurels, Omar seemingly re-upped his subscription to the quantity over quality club as he picked up reliever Mike Adams from the Brewers in exchange for man-without-a-country Jeremi Gonzalez. Adams will probably see some time in the Met's pen, possibly in place of the man who seemingly will NEVER be able to stay with us in the majors, Mr. Heath Bell. We wish SOMEONE would tell us what the Mets have against Bell???!!! We'd love to see him get a chance, rather then go with a retread from the Brewers.

Just think- when Bannister and Maine come back, with Soler and Hernandez in the rotation and hopefully doing well, we might, once again, have an embarassment of riches in the starting rotation. Like we've said time and again- NEVER count out Mr. Minaya!!!!
