Yes, We Have No Beato...But We Do Get a New Carr!

The deadline for signing prospect Pedro Beato passed, and he has decided to re-enter the draft. He must feel he has a better opportunity to up his pay-day, and no one can blame him for trying to get the most $$ he can. We trust Omar's judgement, and money is not an issue for signing the right players, so Omar must have felt that the offer he presented was a fair and equitable one and since Beato apparently wanted more, No Deal! However, we did sign College of Southern Idaho freshman pitcher Nick Carr, who will leave for St. Lucie, Fla., on Sunday to suit up for the Class A Advanced St. Lucie Mets for 2.5 weeks before joining the Kingsport (Tenn.) Mets of the Rookie League. Carr was chosen by the Mets in the 41st round of the 2005 MLB Draft, after posting a 17-4 record over his junior and senior seasons at Twin Falls High School in Idaho. Rather then signing with the Mets right out of high school, Carr took his mid-90s fastball and deadly slider to the junior college ranks, where he finished with a 5-3 record and 2.18 ERA. Terms of Carr's deal were not disclosed.
