Another draft pick makes his debut

Left-hander Jon Niese made his debut for Single-A St. Lucie on yesterday and allowed three runs, one earned, in five innings.

Niese, a 2005 seventh-round pick, was 11-9 with a 3.93 ERA, 121 H and 132/62 K/BB in 123 2/3 IP for low Single-A Hagerstown. He might be getting lost behind Mike Pelfrey, Philip Humber and Deolis Guerra, but he's a fine pitching prospect.
