2 Out of 3 Ain't Bad!!!!

Yes, we SHOULD have won 3 out of 3, especially against a Yankees team missing Posada, Matsui and Sheffield...yes, we SHOULD have won 3 of 3, especially since the one we did lose featured another amazing performance by my 4th favorite Mets' pitcher of all-time, Mr. Pedro Martinez...and yes, we SHOULD have won 3 out of 3, and possibly would have if Willie had left Sanchez in instead of throwing Wagner 2 (and then 3) days straight...however, this is NOT a time to whine about what SHOULD have been...it's a time to realize that, in spite of the Yankees' hurting roster, we did what we were supposed to do, which was win this series, not merely for bragging rights (for now) in NY, but more importantly, because the Phils lost 2 of 3 to the Red Sox, and the Braves lost 2 of 3 to the Diamondbacks, immediately before we face the Phils in 3 more games that are added to the first "critical juncture" of this season! (Man, that was a long sentence....) We have something this year that we haven't had recently, and that is simply MOXIE! We fall down, we pick ourselves up, and we win after a loss...we don't lose our heads, because we know we are in every game we play, and on any given day we probably will win. This is reflected in the attitudes of David Wright, the super-sophmore, and Carlos Delgado, the battle-tested, veteran clubhouse leader...and I can't help but get a great feeling when the camera points to Pedro during a game he's not pitching and it catches him smiling and it seems that he might just have finished telling a joke or making one of his teammates laugh somehow...when in other years' sportswriters would have ripped much of Willie's recent decision-making to shreds, he is given more of a pass, a la Joe Torre, because winning does that...and, in prior years, when we have as bad a trade as the Zambrano/Fortunato for Kazmir, on the day after Kazmir's record improved to 7-2, our club would have been tarred and feathered in the news and instead we are praised for taking the first Subway series from the Yanks...again, that's what winning does for a team/organization- better get used to it because it's not going to stop!!!
